A. WHAT?
Gemini Giant
WHERE?
Launching Pad Drive-In,
810 E. Baltimore Street,
Wilmington, Illinois
WHY PULL OVER?
Space-age muffler
men are hard to come by, but one
can be found on the outskirts of
Joliet, towering above fabled Route
66. Known as the Gemini Giant,
he’s dressed in a 1950s-style space
suit, and makes for a great photo
opportunity. Bonus: The adjacent
drive-in restaurant has yummy
burgers and shakes to fuel you for
the drive ahead.
B. WHAT?
Leaning Tower of Niles
WHERE?
6300 Touhy Avenue,
Niles, Illinois
WHY PULL OVER?
It’s the only lean-
ing tower this side of Pisa! And it’s
an impressive model of the Italian
icon, although it’s approximately
half the height of the original. You
can even do that thing that tourists
do in Italy: Hold your hands at an
angle so that it appears you’re hold-
ing the tower up. Clever you!
C. WHAT?
McDonald’s #1 Store
Museum
WHERE?
400 Lee Street,
Des Plaines, Illinois
WHY PULL OVER?
Because you
deserve a break today — at the very
first McDonald’s! While this is a
recreation of the store that once
stood on the property, the architec-
ture, design, and museum will take
you back to when burgers cost a
nickel. There’s also a fully opera-
tional Golden Arches right across
the street. We suggest you stop and
stretch instead of taking the drive-
through route.

D. WHAT?
Paul Bunyan Muffler Man
and Giant Cow
WHERE?
Lambs Farm, 14245W.
Rockland Road, Libertyville,
Illinois
WHY PULL OVER?
Stretch your legs
and hobnob with an enormous axe-
wielding Paul Bunyan, along with a
gigantic Bessie the Cow. If you’re
not in a rush to get back on the
road, check out the adjoining farm
and its star resident, 600-pound
piggy Miss Wiggles.
E. WHAT?
Bronze Fonz
WHERE?
117 E.Wells Street,
Milwaukee,Wisconsin
WHY PULL OVER?
Ayyyy, it’s the
Fonz, that’s why! Since this sculp-
ture has yet to jump the shark, we
give it — you guessed it — two
thumbs up!
F. WHAT?
UFO Landing Port
WHERE?
4885 State Road 29,
Poland,Wisconsin
WHY PULL OVER?
Just as you expect
to find a parking spot when you
get to your destination, so, too, do
aliens traveling millions of light
years to reach Earth. (Imagine the
cries of, “Are we there yet?” on a fly-
ing saucer.) Thus, Bob Tohak’s
creation.
G. WHAT?
Rooftop Goats
WHERE?
700 N. Bay Shore Drive,
Sister Bay,Wisconsin
WHY PULL OVER?
Stop at Al
Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant
because you’re hungry from the
long drive, and because you
absolutely need to see goats on
a roof. Yes, goats. On a
roof
. Goats
live on this restaurant’s roof May
through October. They eat and
sleep and do all the other things
that goats do on terra firma, only
with a view to drool over. Food’s
good, too.
