Memory Lane
DEAN AND KATHLEEN SCHROCK
|
PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO
Dean and Kathleen Schrock have been traveling to Mexico for
years. “We take our family on vacation every two years,” says
Kathleen. “Interval International is always there to help us get
the accommodations we want.” Back in 1998, the group of
eight took a bus from their Nuevo Vallarta resort into Puerto
Vallarta, and hopped on a boat to the beach village of Yelapa,
where they snorkeled at Boca de Tomatlán, ate the fresh catch
of the day at a seaside cafe, and hiked to the village waterfall.
After the hike, Dean and Kathleen snapped a photo of their
three adult children and 2-year-old grandson in front of the
cascading waters. On a recent exchange to Shell Vacations
Club at Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort in Puerto Vallarta,
the family — which now numbers 12 — returned to the same
spot to recreate the photo taken nearly two decades ago.
Jurassic Wonderland
CRYSTAL AND ROBERT BURLOW
|
MAUI, HAWAII
Crystal Burlow recalls the time she exchanged her home
resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for a lush, tropical
spot in Maui, Hawaii, at The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort
Villas. Wasting no time, Crystal and her husband explored the
picturesque island, driving along the pristine Hana Highway,
stopping to marvel at Oheo Gulch, and even flying over to
the Big Island for a helicopter tour that included aerial views
of volcanoes, rolling green hilltops and valleys, and majestic
waterfalls. “I thought I was back in the Jurassic era,” Crystal
reminisced. And, as if the helicopter ride wasn’t exhilarating
enough, a range of zip-line courses offered glimpses of gorges
and even more waterfalls.

SHIRLEY MADERIOS
|
ARUBA
Creating memories to last a lifetime in sunny Aruba is some-
thing that Shirley Maderios has turned into a family affair.
Unable to make use of her exchanges for several years due
to health issues, Shirley gifted her son, Shawn Roderick, and
his girlfriend, Jeanne Hipke, with a trip to the same resort she
had stayed at 10 years prior — La Quinta Beach Resort in the
capital city, Oranjestad. Shawn and Jeanne took full advantage
of the opportunity for fun in the sun on this southern Caribbean
paradise. “We were able to explore the whole island, including
Baby Beach and the Natural Pool,” Shawn says. The couple
spent quality time on the powdery sands, indulging in great
food and taking in photo-worthy sunsets. “My mom has been
on some great trips through Interval,” Shawn says, “and I want
to thank her for letting me be part of it.”
Holiday Reunion
JUDY PEARCE
|
LAS VEGAS
Every year, Judy Pearce takes advantage of her Interval mem-
bership benefits to arrange a Thanksgiving reunion with her
sister. Judy recently exchanged for two-bedroom accommo-
dations at the Tahiti in Las Vegas, Nevada, a halfway point for
the traveling siblings. Not only did Judy and her sister get to
spend the holiday together, but Judy found out that a friend —
along with family from Beijing, who had never experienced
a Thanksgiving celebration — would be in town at the same
time. “What began as a reunion of two sisters became an inter-
national get-together,” Judy says. Aside from feasting on a
homemade turkey dinner, Judy and company trekked through
Zion National Park, shopped, and, of course, tried their luck at
Sin City’s glitzy casinos.
