NEWS & NOTES

New York City, New York

SUMMER IN THE CITY

Since New York City never sleeps, there are plenty of opportunities to experience the energy of the

Big Apple. And summer is the best time to take in all that the city has to offer, from the many stores,

restaurants, and museums (there are more than 80 across the five boroughs) to iconic spots such

as Times Square, Central Park, and Rockefeller Center. With so many attractions, deciding what to

see and do can be daunting. Here are some not-to-be-missed activities and events that are worth

adding to your New York City itinerary:

SANDY SINGALONGS

A trip to Daytona Beach always sounds like a good idea, but things will really start to rock in May when

the 2018 Bandshell Summer Concert Series begins. Live shows take place at 7 p.m. every Friday and

Saturday night through September in the renowned coquina amphitheater that dates back to 1937 —

and is positioned mere steps from the surf. Saturday performances are free and followed by a fireworks

display. Splurge for the Friday-night VIP ticket — still just $10 (regular admission is $3 on Fridays) —

and you’ll get a reserved seat. Snacks and beverages also are available.

BERKSHIRES,

MASSACHUSETTS

FANCIFUL AMERICANA

With an endless rotation of displays and

an always-impressive lineup of visiting

exhibits, the Norman Rockwell Museum

should make your must-do Berkshires

itinerary every time you’re in the area. This

spring,

Never Abandon Imagination: The

Fantastical Art of Tony DiTerlizzi

, which

runs through May 28, will delight fans of

The Spiderwick Chronicles

and DiTerlizzi’s

other works. Equally striking, Gloria Stoll

Karn’s unmistakable 1940s-era dime store

magazine-cover art is featured in a display

fittingly titled

Pulp Romance

until June 10.

Myrtle Beach Safari is known for

providing guests with an up-close

wildlife encounter that most zoos

simply can’t match. For example,

depending on when you visit, you

may get to feed an elephant, inter-

act with an ape, or play with tiger

cubs. And things get even wilder

on the newest tour, a night safari

billed as an “active adventure,”

during which animals’ noctur-

nal behaviors can be observed.

The night safari tour is typically

available Saturdays from March to

June, and requires reservations.
