CRUISE NEWS BRIEFS
THE SHOW MUST GO ON
In addition to fun itineraries, MSC Cruises has always been known for
top-notch onboard entertainment. And now, the performance offerings
on the
MSC Seaside
are set to exceed even those standards. The ship’s
934-seat Metropolitan Theatre is home to seven new and original
Broadway-style spectacles, including
My Life in Music
, based on popular
movie soundtracks, and
TheWizard
, focused on jaw-dropping illusions.
There’s also a new improvised comedy show staged by the BeerProv
troupe that promises to have audiences rolling in the aisles. And that’s
not all —with Lego rooms for young cruisers, an F1 racing simulator,
and more, it’s time to get the show on the road!
EVOLUTIONARY DESIGN
Celebrity Cruises’ new 100-passenger
Celebrity Flora
is arguably
the most unique cruise ship ever conceived. Yes, innovative design
concepts (more outward-facing spaces, modern cocoon loungers)
were incorporated to ensure guest comfort, but what truly makes
Flora
so distinct is that it was purpose-built for one of the world’s most
singular destinations: the Galápagos Islands. Indeed, every detail of
the ship — from the anchorless sea-positioning system to the
Observatory’s floor-to-ceiling windows to the multiple Zodiac boat
tenders — allows passengers to more fully experience this unspoiled
environmental wonderland, without interfering with the daily habits of
the archipelago’s natural residents.

CRUISES
The secret is out regarding quick cruises: They make for
delightful long weekends or serve as hassle-free extensions
to land-based vacations. Which is why Carnival’s short
cruise program — mostly four- and five-night voyages —
has become more popular. So, beginning in May 2019,
Carnival will reposition two grand vessels —
Carnival
Dream
and
Carnival Valor
— to sail from Galveston and
New Orleans respectively, to fun Mexico destinations
year-round. The bottom line is a greater selection of quick
cruises. Not to mention incredibly affordable. Many of
the short program itineraries are similar in price to a few
nights at a nice hotel — except food and certain activities
also are included!
QUICK — CONVENIENT — ESCAPE
Round-trip from Galveston, Texas, to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico
BIG ACCOMMODATIONS, BIGGER VIEWS
Alaskan cruises — through the Inside Passage, among wilderness reserves,
and alongside dramatic glaciers—might be the most visually striking itineraries
in the industry. Yet, the coastal scenery really is just the tip of the iceberg, so to
speak. Alaska is as stunning inland as it is along the shore. Holland America
Line’s Land+Sea Journeys provide wonderful opportunities to experience both
regions, and starting in 2019, the company will add 99 rooms — including 55
spacious junior suites — to its Denali accommodations. The junior suites will all
have a balcony so guests can soak up the mesmerizing views for the duration
of their excursion.
